 Sir Edmund Percival Hillary 20 July 1919 11 January 2008 was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. On 29 May 1953, Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest

2.Richard Hugh McCaw  born 31 December 1980) is a retired New Zealand professional rugby union player. He captained the national team, the All Blacks, in 110 out of his 148 test matches, and won two Rugby World Cups.

Ernest Rutherford, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson 30 August 1871  19 October 1937 was a New Zealand British physicist who came to be known as the father of nuclear physics. Encyclopedia Britannica considers him to be the greatest experimental since Michael Faraday 19 1867.
